Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl โ who inherited the toy collection when he grew up โ receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
